Hi - I'm the NEW Twinsie!

Hi Everyone!
Since I am a new Twinsie, I thought I should probably introduce myself.  I’m a little giddy, I always wondered what it would be like to have a twin!!
My name is Brenda Wright, I live in Sioux City, Iowa (west coast of Iowa).  I have been married to my best friend, Darin for 16 years, in May.  We’ve been together for 23 years. WOW, that makes me feel old!  We have three beautiful daughters; Taelyr, 19; Kaelyn, 13; and Jaemee, 6.  They keep us busy.
I am relatively new to this “reading” thing.  If you would have asked me a year ago to “read” a book, I would have laughed in your face and told you “I don’t READ!”  I could read about 2-3 pages at a time, because it always put me to sleep.  Well, in May of 2012, I heard people talking on the radio about some 50 Shades of some color book.  A few days later, I saw it in the store.  It was a THICK book, I read the back cover and saw that it was one of three books.  I said OH HELL NO!  I can’t read THREE books this thick!!  I DON’T read!!  A few days later, a friend at work told me that she was reading a book that I HAD to read!  Of course, it was the same book.  So reluctantly, I did.  I downloaded an app and I bought the whole trilogy!  That was a big commitment to me to get ALL THREE at the same time.  Boy, I was glad that I did.  I read all three of the of the books in 5 days.  I was so sad (now I know it as a “book hangover”) that after 2 days, I read them all again.  It only took 4 days the second time.  I loved it even more!!
And that’s how it all started….I have been reading ever since.  I’ve read well over 120 books since then.  I just can’t stop.  My kids keep threatening to take all electronic devices away from me!  It hasn’t happened yet!  They love their iPhones too much!
Back in December, I was approached by a new author, Andrea Smith, about possibly editing her third book that she was just beginning.  I was thrilled!  It was a new experience for me.  I did her third book, then went back and edited her first and second books.  Since then, she’s written two more!  I love her stories!
A few months ago, I was invited to a special Facebook page with the best girls you could ever “talk” to!  We share everything together.  And when I say “everything”,  I MEAN “EVERYTHING!”  We have all become fast friends!  One of those great ladies approached me last night about joining this wonderful blog page.  I have been following it for months, so I was familiar with their work.  Of course, I had to say YES!  So here I am….
I am excited to start “officially” reading for you all!  I hope I can write reviews that will help you want to read great books.  I am pretty much a “tell it like it is” kind of girl.  I have learned after years of being a “people pleaser” that “Ain’t nobody got time for that” (I quote a famous lady from the internet!).
So, that’s pretty much everything about me.  I hope to start my first book soon!  Thanks again for the warm welcome!

The Proposition AND The Proposal by Katie Ashley

The Proposition

Book Blurb:

With her thirtieth birthday looming, Emma Harrison finds her biological clock clanging and the elusive knight in shining armor yet to appear. She’s running out of options, especially after her gay best friend backs out from being her sperm donor. Of course, there’s always a sperm bank, but Emma fears a donor mix-up might impregnate her with the spawn of Satan.

Resident company womanizer, Aidan Fitzgerald, is used to always getting what he wants, especially in the bedroom. When Emma spurns his advances at the company Christmas party, he's determined to have her no matter what it takes. After Aidan learns of Emma's predicament, he is quick to offer a proposition that will benefit them both. He will father Emma's child, but she must conceive it with him naturally. Not one for hook-ups or casual sex, Emma is reluctant to take him up on his offer, but his charm, coupled with her intense desire for motherhood, wins out.

Soon their baby-making sessions become more than just physical. Aidan can't seem to walk away from her while Emma begins to wonder if Aidan could be the one. But can Aidan leave his past behind to become the man Emma needs him to be?

Angie J's Review:

SO do you remember when I went to Nashville to meet Katie, Jasinda and Tara??? I mentioned how my friend Melinda and I started reading Katie's books to each other to pass the 8 hour drive to and fro???  Well this was a book we started on the trip back and we laughed our asses off.

Aiden is a total DOUCHEBAG.  When the name was given to a man for the first time, I am sure it was told to him!!!   He is a manwhore totally.  He wants one night stands or emotionally empty hookups.  He is not going to get his heart broken and that is it.  It is all on his terms and when a girl gets to involved...bye bye baby.  So he sees sweet, innocent, naive hottie Emma and approached her at the Christmas party (not in this novel but back story for ya).  Her cock blocking friends warn her about him and she rebuffs him.  Dude is bummed and also shocked cuz noone says no to Aiden.......Well fast forward a few months and Em is having a massive "i want a baby attack".  Her best friend....her best GAY friend Connor's partner wont allow him to father Em's baby.  Well Aiden comes to the rescue.  He offers a Proposition....conceive the old fashioned way and he will donate his DNA to her cause.  Well Baby Fever makes Em desperate and she agrees.  Plus as he says "he will bring some good looking DNA to the table!!"

Now I shouldn't mention this but *snickers* I know you wanna know....the sex is hot.  Like REALLY EMBARRASSING to read to a best friend type hot. Katie defo didn't skim on the baby making fun that is for sure.

Ok back to my review......Emma knows she is in love but knowing Aiden she  keeps quiet about her feelings.  She knows that he will run for the hills or the thighs of any eager skank around.   Aiden is having trouble with the way Em makes him feel.  He tries to deny it and freaks out alot when stuff happens during her pregnancy.  So he decided that he can totally walk away from Emma without any trouble.  He does a total DB move (which I wont tell) and then realizes he has utterly screwed up all his happiness.  The end of the novel is a cliffhanger so be sure to have downloaded book 2 right after reading this.  Emma is broken hearted and Aiden is a a mess.  I am so excited to start book 2.  I will as soon as I post this review.

The Proposal

Book Blurb:

In the weeks following Aidan’s betrayal, Emma has tried her best to move on. Ignoring his countless texts, voice mails, and flowers, she isn’t sure she wants to be won back by him. But Aidan isn’t going down without a fight—especially not until Emma lets him reveal the secret of his past that caused him to be so commitment phobic.

But fate intervenes when premature labor forces Emma on strict bed rest for two weeks. Aidan steps forward with a shocking proposal. To prove his love and commitment for her and their unborn son, he will take a leave of absence from work to care for her around the clock. Vowing to guard her heart, Emma reluctantly agrees.

While she is touched by Aidan’s attentiveness and tender loving care, Emma is thrown for a loop by the amorous attentions of ER doctor, Alpesh “Pesh” Nadeen. Pesh is everything Emma could ever want—successful, stable, and ready to settle down and be a husband and father. Pesh wants nothing more than to win Emma’s heart, but she is not sure she’s able to give it.

Her heart may still belong to the very man who broke it—the one who is so desperately trying to win her back

Angie J's Review:

WOWZERS!!!!  Ok so this book begins right where the last book ended...Aiden is broken and totally doing everything he can to get Em back.  She is soooo not going to have it because he has utterly and completely broken her heart.  Well a little bit of a medical drama from his pop and then Em and Aiden see each other.  Well, Pop decides to do a little match making for Em and ...wait for it.....not Aiden but the Doctor!!!  LOL  Well needless to say Aiden isn't thrilled with daddy-o.  His response is to step up Aidens game to win her back.  Well the stress of the baby daddy drama plus Pop in the hospital causes Em to go on bedrest.  Where does she go you ask?  Why to Aiden's of course.  He is so sweet and doing everything including growing a vagina *giggles*.  Well Em begins a self destructive path herself because, like Aiden in last book, she is freaking out.  She is really hurtful to Aiden and starts DATING people while living with her baby daddy!!!!!  SMH....oh Em!!!
Well Em and Aiden realize they belong together and that was a pretty hot, intense scene .  Aiden finally admits some things to Em that she has been dying to hear come out of his lips.
I loved in the book when Casey and Nate get married.  The wedding was a riot when Casey freaks they are short a groomsman and asks douchenozzle Aiden to fill in *snort I love her nicknames for their wedding*.  Well Aiden has a little surprize up his sleeve for our girl Em and it was soooo sweet.  I think I knew it was going to happen but at the same time loved HOW "it" happened.....you wanna know dontchya???  To be honest, i can't really tell much more about the story of I will ruin the whole novel!!!!  Just trust me, if you liked book 1 then you will love book 2.
Well the epilogue of this book is great.  I loved how settled Em and Aiden are with Baby Noah.  I love how we get to hear what is going on with the careers and their HEA is discussed.  I also love the bomb that Em drops......poor poor Aiden will have his hands full!!!!

Giveaway and Review of Forever: The Dragon Wars by Rebecca Royce Blog Tour

Book Blurb:

Devin Owen has come back from the Dragon Wars a changed Werewolf. For one thing, he's lost his wolf side as well as most of his desire to live. He spends most of his life doped up to handle the pain from his injured leg.

Lena Knox knew the moment she met Devin that he was her mate. But, she'd been a child at the time and he hadn't noticed her at all. Now, all grown up she wants Devin to be the wolf she’s waited for. Not that she has a lot of time for longing with life crumbling around her.

A couple of heated encounters draw them together but is it enough to overcome the war wounds they both carry? Or will an outside enemy destroy them before they get the chance to know?
Book Clip:

“You’re my mate, Devin. I’ve known it since the first time I was in your company when I was seven years old.”

Devin gripped the side of the table he stood next to like she’d struck him. “No.”

“No?” She hadn’t expected the pain of his rejection. She’d known he might not believe her at first. Tears she refused to shed clogged her throat. “It’s not ‘no.’ I’m your mate, such that I am.”

Lena knew she wasn’t an ideal Female specimen. Her skin frequently broke out in horrible bouts of acne, although she looked pretty clear at the moment, her chin jutted out too far, her hands were not dainty, and when she shifted, her Wolf form frequently had trouble coming to a stop at high speeds. More than once she’d collided into trees, bushes, and other Wolves.

But she knew she was a nice person. She could work hard, and she never asked anyone for anything but common decency. She’d be a good mate to him, and he shouldn’t be rejecting her outright.

Unless he found her absolutely repulsive to look at…

“You’ve made a mistake. Whatever you thought you smelled when you were a child was the wild fantasy of a young girl. You should be over it by now.”

She sighed. “Devin, I can still smell it. I promise when you get to know me you’ll find out I’m not wildly fanciful. I live in the real world.”

“I can’t smell it on you. Not at all. I’m sorry, Lena. You seem like a nice kid, but if you can really smell mating from me, then it’s one of those rare occasions where one Wolf feels something the other doesn’t.”

Lena had heard about those situations. It was every young Wolf’s deepest fear. Something went askew with the chemistry. One Wolf felt mated and the other one didn’t. They could even mate with someone else.

“I think you should go home and work on getting over whatever this is because, at least for my part, it is not a mating.”

Lena’s heart might explode from her chest. She turned on her heel. What else was there to say, really? He’d said no. He didn’t feel it. She’d waited fifteen years for him to come home, and it had been for nothing.

Angie J's Review:

I am a big Paranormal reader and this quick novella doesn't disappoint.

Basically Devin comes back a broken war hero from being a Dragon POW for 5 years.  He is basically depressed and broken.  He wakes up grumpy because his neighbors swing and door make toooo much noise.  He decides to go over and inform them to fix it.  So he stomps over and is shocked when he sees hottie Lena on the porch.  He is pretty much shocked that his "in the pants wolf" wakes up at the looks of her.  He freaks and runs away from her...snickers.....Well Lena isn't having it.  So she stomps over and informs him they are mated.  well given he is 40 and she is early 20's, he is broken and she is alive, he is unable to shift and she is healthy, he says hell to the no.
Anywho the two of them keep dancing around each other until they agree on being "friends with benefits".  Well guess what people?  He grows feelings for her!!!  shocker right :)  At the end of the novel the couple have a big fight over her family and his lack of involvement because he refused to be her mate.  Then after a week of being a jackass he decides to apologize when the unthinkable happens.....DRAGONS attack Lena....wanna know how it ends??????  read the book and see.

I will say the only think I think this books is missing is MORE PAGES!!  I could have read about Devin and Lena alot more!!!

Author Interview:

1. Are you a plotter or seat of your pants writer?

I’m a hybrid between the two. I always start with characters and a story arc in the traditional Aristotle method, meaning I know the inciting event, the three complications, the climax and conclusion. All of the wonderful detail between that occurs to me as I go. And often I discover something while writing I didn’t expect. This is the magical part to me and probably gives me the biggest jolt of excitement about the whole process.

2.  What authors do you read when you get a chance?

Of course, I love all my fellow Booktrope authors; they have such wide variety of books there is always something wonderful to read. Besides them, some of my favorite modern writers are: Ann Patchet, Wally Lamb, Kate DiCamillo, Anne Lamont – all literary fiction, which probably sounds odd given my genre. But my goal is to write well-written page-turners and reading writers that are better than me is the way to grow. I’ve also been on a huge poetry kick of late, namely Mary Oliver. I’ve been struggling in my personal life (going through a divorce) and there is something very comforting in a poem, especially as they are so personal and relatable to whatever our current emotional state.

3.  Name the author you would love to meet and 'pick their brain" during an afternoon.

What a great question. I think I would have to choose Mary Oliver. I’m fascinated by her talent and would love to spend time learning about her process, especially how she can take an occurrence in the natural world and makes it about the human experience, usually in less than 50 words. Think about that! True brilliance.

4. What do you like to do when you aren't writing?

I love to watch movies and television. I’m an avid fitness addict. I love food and wine, especially if I don’t have to cook it. Anything in the natural world is inspiring to me, so walks and hikes and just being near any body of water, especially the ocean, is my perfect day. And, of course, spending time with my daughters and our friends is what I love the most.

5. What is your favorite book or series?

It’s hard for me to pick a favorite but I guess I’ll go back to my standard answer: “To Kill A Mockingbird”. It is the quintessential great American novel.

“A stellar first novel with heart-stopping suspense and a hero to die for.”
~ Angie Fox, NYT Bestselling author of THE LAST OF THE DEMON SLAYERS

Angie J's Review:

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

OK I have said it a million times but incase you forgot, I love paranormal.  Vampries, Shifters, Ghosts, Demons, etc are my favorite books to read.  When we were approached about the tour , I jumped at the chance.  I mean a new Paranormal series to read, yes please.

This story is as old as time.  Lovers who are forbidden to be together and face a tragic ending.  When Calisto was faced with the chance he could see his love again, he took it not knowing what all it entailed.  He becomes a Night Walker.  He scoffs at being called a vampire because they kill for sport.  He kills those humans who are worthless members of the human society in order to live.  He has stayed a recluse and a bit eccentric in the eyes of the humans he works with ever day.  He never gets close to anyone because he is waiting and waiting and waiting for his love to come back because the "old one" predicted her return to him.

Kate walks in on her soon to be husband getting some "extra attention" from one of his students.  So Kate tells him "ba-bye" and leave to sort through her family possessions.  They died over 2 years ago and so she needs to settle their estate.  One night she bumps into a very handsome stranger and seems drawn to him.  she hopes and prays she will see this hottie again.  Guess what kids?  Calisto is who she bumps into...WHAT you say!!!  Yup and he recognizes her immediately.  His goal is to have Kate for the rest of her immortal life with him because he will not turn her into a Night Walker like him.  He is happy to spend this life with her.

So you know there must be conflict right?  HELLO of course there is conflict.  Well, Calisto is being hunted by some cray cray religious fanatics who feel he must be killed as well as Kate.  They are the reason the two were separated over 200 years ago.......Calisto will stop at nothing to keep her safe while trying to keep his secret life a SECRET.

I completely enjoyed this book.  I am going to dive right into the next book.  You do meet the main character from book 2 in book 1.  He is accidentally created by Calisto!!!  Wonder is he is a happy camper or not???  HRMMMMM!!!!!  Better read so I can let you know :)

Book #2

Night Demon (Night Series, #2)

Book Blurb:

Deep within the Yucatan jungle a demon has awakened...

Gretchen Finch's job would be much easier if she weren't alone in the jungle with a brilliant recluse whose every glance sets her on fire. But the more she focuses on her work, the closer she gets to unlocking the mysteries of a terrible creature - the Night Demon - that threatens the world as she knows it. Though her scientific mind tells her it's impossible, she's beginning to believe the ancient Mayan tales as the sinister jungle comes alive around her.

Lukas Smith has spent hundreds of years searching for answers to his immortal Night Walker nature. As a series of ancient glyphs become clear, he's about to find out more than he'd ever hoped, but the more he learns, the more his fate intertwines with the Night Demon, and the harder it becomes to hide his immortal secret from the beautiful, intelligent Gretchen.

Together, they must find a way to stop the inexplicable violence and mass destruction surging across the earth before the Night Demon destroys more than just mankind.

Angie J's Review:

I received this book for this blog tour.

I was very excited to get to read book 1 and 2 of this series.  I really enjoyed book 1 and couldn't wait to jump into book 2.  Now I didn't realize, until I was half way through this book, that there is another book to this series.  It is Book 1.5.  I didn't feel I missed anything with skipping but had I known, I would have read it as well.

In this book we get to see more of Lucas.  Calisto is his maker and he doesn't have very kind feelings toward the man he feels took his humanity away.  Lucas is deep in the jungle with nerdy scientist Gretchen.  Gretchen and Lucas both has "feelings" for one another but keep things professional.  The two are in the jungle trying  find the secrets to the Night Walker beginnings.  They have noticed the jungle is very different and  feel an evil presence.  Well they discover some things and have to go back to the States so that Lucas can talk to his maker.

When Lukas and Gretchen return, Calisto is very upset and believes he is in trouble. He believes that  Lucas is there to kill Kate.  He was told by his sire that he has broken a Night Walker Law by creating 2 Night Walkers.  He knows that Kate is going to be hunted.  Kate listens to what Lucas tells them about the evil in the jungle that is causing human cities to have mass suicides.  Lucas realizes he loves our dear Gretchen but is a jackass and sends her packing after he explains he is immmortal....Like that is going to stop this woman.  Do you not know Gretchen Lucas????  Well Gretchen and the others all return to the jungle.

This part of the story is when it got very detailed and important.  You meet the 4 Gods and the Guardian.  Their job is to put the Night Goddess, Ch'en, and the demon she commands back into her "cage"  We also meet a fertility Priestess who knows what the demon is after and we get a glimpse into what the demon is capable of IF she gets free.  I love how the author incorporated all the characters into major roles in capturing the Night Goddess and the Demon.

I will say this book was VERY VERY slow but VERY VERY methodical is setting up the all important ending of the book.  I was loving the ending and cannot wait for the next book in the series to be released.

About the Author:

Wow! Goodreads just asked me for my city of birth and date of death... What if I could answer that? Would I live life differently if I knew for sure how much longer I had left?

Interesting thought.

That's generally how my writer brain works. I've been dreaming up stories since I was in elementary school. My first book was titled "The Wonders of Unicorn Creek" and my publisher was Dehesa elementary school.

Since then, I've published numerous short stories in anthologies and magazines. My story, "Immortal Beloved" was a finalist for a Bram Stoker award and was recently re-released in the "Dead Souls" anthology, along with a follow-up never-before-published story, "Subito Piano".

My debut novel, Night Walker, was released in 2012 and won a San Diego Book Award for Best Published Fantasy-SciFi-Horror. Night Walker also won the Romance Through the Ages in the Best Paranormal and Best First Book categories.

Night Thief will be released in Sept. 2012 and Night Demon will be released in the Spring of 2013...

I also post news and short stories on my Blog, so feel free to stop by for a read. http://lisakessler.wordpress.com

Paranormal tales are my favorite and I tend toward the dark side. Join me? :)
